When documentary filmmaker Ellie Land saw reports in the national press about an increasing trend in woman undergoing labia surgery, she set out to make a documentary exploring the subject.
Land partnered with leading clinicians Sarah Creighton and Lih-Mei Liao from University College Hospitals London to create Centrefold, a moving and thought-provoking film presenting the personal accounts of women who have had a labiaplasty.
The ten-minute animated documentary explores the ethics of labiaplasty surgery in the UK. Funded by the Wellcome Trust Small Arts award, the film follows two women who intend to undergo the procedure. Their personal journeys are balanced with research drawn from the research work from Creighton and Liao.
