The entrance to my vagina is really tender, and can be quite painful to touch. I recently lost my virginity and although I didn't bleed, I felt quite a lot of discomfort. My boyfriend and I have not had sex since, but every time he fingers me around this area, I experience pain. Even after orgasm, the entrance to my vagina is still sore. Is this common, and what can I do to solve the problem?
Cliterati replies Tenderness around the vagina is a common problem, and one that is always worth getting checked by a GP if it lasts longer than a couple of days. There's a strong chance that it could be that you weren't lubricated enough when you had intercourse and this has led to some bruising. If the pain goes in a few days then just use this as a learning experience. Next time you have sex, make sure you have a lot of foreplay beforehand and, if you don't feel adequately lubricated, use some commercial lubricant. Go for a silicon or water based lube as oil-based lubricants can cause condoms to rot. However, it may be that you have contrated thrush (which is not specifically contracted through sex but can be brought on by sexual activity.) You don't mention whether you used a condom, but it's also possible that you may have contracted some other STI so it's worth going to the doctors to get checked out to be on the safe side. You may well have nothing to worry about but it's always best to get checked up as soon as possible.
