Trojan condoms are now actively looking to extend the ‘Safe Ride Home’ scheme across the UK following the success of the pilot in Sussex. Cabbies have handed out thousands of condoms on request since the scheme launched two weeks ago and Trojan are now in discussion with a network of taxi firms to agree the roll out.
The ‘Safe Ride Home’ initiative was created by Trojan, Americas No 1 condom brand in a bid to help reduce STIs. The thinking behind the idea is to offer condoms to people at a time when they are most likely to need them.
Drivers from Sussex firm Radio Cabs (who Trojan partnered with for the pilot) and local residents alike have positively responded to this novel way of promoting safe sex.
Radio Cabs driver Micky McSharry said:
“The first Friday I handed out around 50 envelopes in the first hour. People have no problem asking if I’m a Trojan taxi and requesting their sample. Because they have to ask us for a sample there’s no embarrassment factor for either driver or passenger.”
Trojan spokesperson Neale Hunt said:
“Brighton has proved to be a great success and we’re all extremely excited about the UK roll out potential. We’ve had a number of taxi companies across the UK call to request the scheme in their area, which we’re now looking to agree.”
The groundbreaking scheme launched on 11th August and a total of 60,000 condoms will be handed out in Sussex over the campaign period. The samples are packaged in a discreet black envelope and contain a two pack of Trojan ‘Shared Pleasure’ condoms and a leaflet reminding people of the importance to practice safe sex and protect you AND your partner against STIs.
Radio Cabs are Sussex’s largest firm covering a sizeable catchment area from Peacehaven (east) along to Lancing (west) and right out to West Sussex.
Any taxi company interested in joining the ‘Safe Ride Home’ initiative is welcome to contact Trojan.
