Hi,
I've been with my boyfriend for just over a year and been on the pill for about 6 months. However, I always get slightly worried about getting pregnant, even if there is really no need. The other day I was with my boyfriend. I had just finished the last pack but my period doesn't usually start for a few days. In the morning, I was bleeding slightly and now, a day later, it,s gone. I don't think this was the period. Could my boyfriend have been a bit rough? I get worried if things are irregular. Is there any other explanation?

Even if you're on the pill, it's worth using a barrier method too, to prevent sexually transmitted infections and to help ease these kind of worries. The pill isn't 100 per cent safe although it does offer well over 90 per cent protection if used properly (the exact percentage varies depending on the pill you're using so read the leaflet that comes with your pills).
That aside, breakthrough bleeding is a common side effect of many types of the pill. This is particularly likely when you're still getting used to the pill, which is possible given you've only been on it for six months. It is also possible that your boyfriend was a bit too rough and did cause some internal bleeding. The vagina needs to be handled with care - if he had a torn nail or stretched you too much by using too many fingers/an overly large toy, it could cause bleeding.Don't be too worried about it as it is quite common. However, we would strongly recommend that you go to the doctors to be on the safe side. They will be able to put your mind at rest about what the problem is.
