Book review: 302 advanced techniques for driving a man wild in bed

302 advanced techniques for driving a man wild in bed by Olivia St Claire aims to help you leave your man 'breathless at your newfound prowess'. If taken with a hefty dose of salt, then it may well do. It could equally easily leave him breathless with hilarity.

The book is clearly American in tone. It includes such gems as "pay your loving respects to the Lizard King" and tell him how much you love his "Mushroom of Immortality". It also features a guide to penis reflexology. Apparently the penis has pressure points that 'enliven the corresponding parts of his body, heart and mind'. For example, you can 'soothe his sore throat and cough by concentrating your fingerwork on the coronal ridge which will also encourage him to express his emotions more readily'. The only emotion we could see this bringing on is happiness that he's getting a hand job, but maybe we're just sceptics.302 advanced techniques... also suggests that you 'design a love altar...and place upon it several things that remind you of the depth of your sexual feelings - red candles, jasmine incense, perhaps a phallic stone and a vagina-like shell'. This somewhat hippy-dippy advice didn't do anything for us but some women might be into that kind of thing. On the plus side, it does encourage women to throw themselves into passion without being afraid, which is always good advice. It suggests that you use 'passion triggers' - use fantasies and dirty talk to get in the mood.Figure out what your sexual self is - are you fiery or exotic, elegant or sporty - and play to your strengths. Eye contact, flirtation and enjoying your sexuality are all recommended. It also gives some great advice on how to lift your skirt in a provocative manner to get his attention - we'd never realised there were so many ways. There's an entire section devoted to lewd things you can do, which can double up as fantasy prompts. They range from the traditional 'pick him up for the airport wearing nothing but a trenchcoat and heels' to the more original 'help him next time he's washing the car. Wea a thin white t-shirt, sit on the bonnet and let water cascade over your breasts' However, some of the suggestions are a tad surreal. One of the food-play ideas is 'try blue cheese dressing as a nice contrast to your coral opening'. Maybe it's because I loathe blue cheese but this sure doesn't sound sexy to me.This is a book to flick through for ideas. The diversity means that not everything will suit you - you won't be catching us asking anyone to praise our 'cinnibar grotto, pleasure field of heaven or golden crevice' while telling them how great their 'wand of light or rainbow serpant' is. Then again, laughter is an aphrodisiac. However, you'll certainly find some great tips in there too. Great for a bit of inspiration to liven up your sex life and also good for a laugh.302 advanced techniques for driving a man wild in bed by Olivia St Claire is published by Bantam on 3rd October 2002 priced £6.99
