Film reviews: Ancient Secrets of the Kama Sutra

The Ancient Secrets of the Kama Sutra attempts to bring the classic book to life. A young couple go into a library and ask the librarian for a book about sex. She opens the Kama Sutra and they fall into a magical world where the various positions in the book are lived out before their eyes. The librarian is transformed into a beautiful harem girl, leading them through the alternative world.

The first action in the film is a two-man, one woman scene. She enjoys taking a man in her mouth while another one fucks her (fast forward through the cum-shot bit. It's kind off naff - why do these women always dribble the spunk from their mouth, given the amount of men who obsess about women swallowing?) She then takes one anally while the other one fucks her. All this action is observed by the young - fully clad - couple. The woman in the couple is smiling throughout this scene, and keeps glancing at her husband as if to say 'Isn't this great?'. Although initially reticent (he has a look on his face of 'but we were in a library. How come we're in the East now?') the husband soon gets into things when two young ladies start to pleasure a man - and each other - in the next tableau. However, they're such bad actors, the expressions could have been our imagination; it may have just been wind. The film moves on to group action and soon the young couple are enjoying themselves too.Generally, the women in the film are attractive in a porn kind of way. The blokes, while not quite the mustachioed cliches of porn films, less so. There are far too many beards (of the facial hair) variety in evidence. Their bodies are OK at least, which is a good thing. The production values are higher than the average porn flick though, and the decadent surroundings (although occasionally having a 'flimsy set' air) add to the the 'Eastern promise' of the film. However, the elephant - watching, not participating - in the first scene had a tendency to trumpet at inopportune moments which was less than arousing. The action's pretty cliched but not too bad - standard porn fodder really. We'd suggest that if you watch it with your partner, you have a fair few drinks first so that you can suspend disbelief. And turn down the sound because the dialogue is cheesy as hell, the sound quality is ropey and trust us, you won't miss any plot. The Ancient Secrets of the Kama Sutra is available to buy priced £18.95 (video) or £24.95 (DVD) from Blissbox
