The Good Girl's Guide to Bad Girl Sex by Barbara Keesling

Written by acclaimed sex therapist and ex-sexual surrogate Barbara Keesling, The Good Girl's Guide to Bad Girl Sex is a great sexual self-help book for women who want to be that little bit 'badder'. I'm not normally a huge fan of self help books but this one was suitably common-sense and lacking in Americanisms to keep me hooked throughout.

Now, I figured that I was probably 'bad' enough and, to start with, the book didn't tell me anything I didn't already know; accept your own sexuality, enjoy your sexual appetite and masturbate. However, as I progressed, the tips got more useful. There's advice on updating your wardrobe which made total sense. As I progressed through that chapter, I mentally set aside the weekend to do the recommended tasks - namely, clearing out every item you own that doesn't make you feel sexy. The aim of this exercise isn't just to make you feel like a bad girl but also to increase your confidence; a theme that runs throughout the book. There's an entire chapter on how to walk, which advises video taping yourself to see what you look like to other people. I can't recommend this enough. It's amazing what you notice on tape that you've previously missed. The 'talking sexy' chapter includes useful tips and has 'fill in the blanks' style dirty-talk guides which should prove useful if it's something you've never done before. They give a good framework to create your own seductive messages, without being too embarrassing. The 'touch and tease' advice was invaluable. The advice to lure your object of desire included self-touching, how to make eye contact and thinking sexy to look sexy. As a long-term fan of the latter, it was great to see a sex therapist recommending it.For a book about sex, there's remarkably little about the act itself, which makes a refreshing change. It's far more about building your sexual confidence, enjoying your sex life and getting what you want. This is exactly what makes it useful. Overall, this book is a handy guide that's worth getting even if you don't normally like self-help books. Does it work? All I'll say is that I had some of the best sex ever the night that I finished reading this book... The Good Girl's Guide to Bad Girl Sex by Barbara Keesling is published in paperback on 5th September 2002 priced £6.99 and is currently available in hardback priced £18.99
